Although we often think of buying used clothing, there's lots of other items that take energy and resources to manufacture that we can buy secondhand. Some of these include: furniture, games, records, books, electronics and more. Giving these items a second life prevents them from going to a landfill. Whether you're shopping for something or clearing out, think reuse and repair! 2. Unique, Rare and Vintage. The best part about shopping used is the chance to find some really unique items. There are lots of people who have made a hobby out of finding the hidden gems, and lots of them frequent consignment shops bringing in handpicked items for you to give a new life! Why not fill your home with beautiful antique furniture and decor that complements your sense of style? Or find community with people who are also interested in vintage video games and toys? Or find a new favorite song from an old vinyl record? Or start a new hobby because you found gear that was affordable? No two items are the same, and that's the fun of it! 3. Supporting local. We all know it's important to support local, so let's put our money where our hearts are! When you support local businesses, your money stays local. The tax revenue made through sale taxes from local businesses support the local government. This is then used to reinvest in the community. Local businesses also do their own work to support the community. On average, local businesses contribute 250% more than large businesses to local non-profits and causes, creating a positive cycle of giving back.
